Richard McMahon is Executive Director of Energy Supply in EEI's Business Operations Group. In this capacity, he directs the Energy Supply staff in advancing the public policy and commercial interests of its member companies on issues that include fossil power, renewable power, hydropower, environmental issues, distributed generation, risk management, fuel diversity, rail issues, tax and finance issues, and other regulatory and legislative issues.

Prior to this, Mr. McMahon served as Director of Competitive Strategies & Policy in EEI's Energy Services Group. He directed EEI's state legislative and regulatory advocacy program against restrictive affiliate codes of conduct, working with EEI members in 22 states.

Mr. McMahon also managed the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)/EEI partnership program, a major industry marketing campaign to facilitate the delivery of energy services to the federal government and the privatization of DOD utility infrastructure. The federal government is the single largest user of electricity, buying approximately $3 billion annually, with an estimated energy services demand of $5 billion, and utility infrastructure of $25 billion. He also directed the industry's activities regarding public power and utility subsidies.

Mr. McMahon was the founder of the EnviroTech Venture Capital Fund, capitalized at $52 million, and currently sits on its Advisory Board and Technical Liaison Committee. The fund invests in emerging electric technology companies. He also has served on the National Board of the Association of Energy Services Professionals.

Prior to joining EEI, Mr. McMahon worked in management positions at the National Association of Securities Dealers in the NASDAQ Stock Market and in the NASD's Surveillance Division. Mr. McMahon holds a BA degree and an MBA degree in Finance.
